Our commitment to safeguarding
The National Parent Forum of Scotland is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. As an organisation that works within the education sector and with parents and carers, we take our responsibility to protect children seriously.
Our approach
NPFS operates in accordance with:
- The Children (Scotland) Act 1995
- The Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003
- The Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014
- Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) national practice model
- National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland 2021 (updated 2023)
Online safety
Our website and publications platform:
- Does not collect personal data from children under 13
- Does not include user-generated content features that could put children at risk
- Does not include chat, messaging or direct communication features accessible to children
- Processes all data in accordance with UK GDPR, with additional protections for children's data
Publications content
All NPFS publications are reviewed to ensure they:
- Promote positive engagement between parents and schools
- Do not contain content that could be harmful to children
- Support inclusive and equitable education
- Are consistent with national safeguarding guidance
Reporting concerns
If you have a safeguarding concern about a child or young person:
- Immediate danger: Contact Police Scotland on 999
- Non-emergency concerns: Contact your local authority social work department or Police Scotland on 101
- Childline: Children and young people can contact Childline on 0800 1111 or at childline.org.uk
- ParentLine Scotland: Parents and carers can contact ParentLine on 08000 28 22 33
