National 4 progresses onto National 5 LATIN LANGUAGES NATIONAL 4 DISCUSSION IN THE CLASSROOM We worked on a joint project with pupils who were studying Geography. We researched, planned and prepared a presentation on the historical information on the AD79 Mount Vesuvius eruption; the Geography pupils delivered a PowerPoint to us on the features of Vesuvius and its eruptions. Understanding how volcanoes happen really brought the AD79 eruption of Vesuvius and the devastation of Pompeii to life. We could really imagine what it would have been like, with that lava flowing and flowing. My friend in Geography said that we had given her a sense of the human disaster that the AD79 eruption caused. What skills will my child develop? • translation skills, including developing knowledge of vocabulary, accidence and syntax • knowledge and understanding of the impact of Roman culture on Scotland and elsewhere • the ability to apply knowledge of language to explore the interconnected nature of languages • the ability to understand, analyse and evaluate straightforward texts in Latin and translate into English • the ability to plan, research and apply language skills • knowledge and understanding of literary techniques and aspects of Roman culture • critical and creative thinking to synthesise ideas and arguments + ADDED VALUE UNIT
